Small Businesses

Mark has a clear vision to create a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant San Francisco. He has proposed bold policies that will invigorate the small business and commercial corridors of our city, and believes we need to change our philosophy around small business so instead of taking them for granted, we are lifting them up. He is running to get San Francisco back on track for families and all San Franciscans, and make this a city tourists want to visit.

What is Mark’s track record with small businesses?

  • Mark was the City’s longest-serving budget chair in City history and as the only candidate with significant private sector experience, will address the budget deficit, wasteful spending, and reboot our local economy
  • Authored and passed Proposition Q – Housing Not Tents – banning tent encampments citywide on sidewalks
  • Relaxed zoning regulations on Union Street to promote more diversity of commercial space use
  • Fought against Sunday parking meters to enable increased use of commercial corridors citywide
  • Increased street cleaning budgets for commercial corridors, funding for power washing after weekends

What are Mark’s plans to help the small business community?

  • Mark is proposing eliminating business taxes for small businesses who make less than $5M a year in gross receipts to help them grow
  • He wants to reopen Market Street, keep the Great Highway open, and fix our commercial corridors like Valencia Stree
  • Mark is proposing a bold plan to revitalize downtown by adding new housing and tax incentives for employers to relocate downtown that will add more foot traffic in our neighborhoods to support small businesses
  • He will streamline permitting and zoning so small businesses can get going faster and with less bureaucracy,
  • Mark wants to modernize the inefficient and burdensome Healthcare Security Ordinance
